Many times, the tools we need for healing are already present in ourselves. In this visual essay, I unite poetry and art to tell one part of my personal story.

A Message from Aline LaPierre:

As a practicing somatic psychotherapist, I’ve worked with hundreds of clients over the years, guiding them in their recovery from the effects of developmental and relational trauma.
I developed NeuroAffective Touch™ because I saw the need for a therapeutic approach that was somatically-centered, capable of going beyond words yet inclusive of words, and truly engaging the body to heal the relational matrix.

But before all that, I had a journey of my own to undergo. Like many others, I had to learn how to find balance and practice self-regulation in my daily life. It wasn’t always easy. On the path toward well-being, art became my lodestar—a light that has guided, soothed, and challenged me. Art, I believe, brought me into my body. Applying paint to canvas is a physical act, one that asks the hand to embody what the mind envisions. When I paint, the movements of my body are what give me access to the imagery arising from my wordless self.

The paintings you see on this page are personal. Drawing on everything from dreams to childhood sense memories, they represent for me the kinship between our physical bodies and our most authentic selves. I hope that they will inspire you to consider your own journey toward connectedness.
